Dr Hilda High

Medical Oncologist Specialising in Cancer Genetics

Presenting on:

All in the Family: When to Offer Genetic Testing

Medicare funded testing is now available for all patients diagnosed with breast cancer at or before age 50, regardless of their current age. Doctors are being sued for NOT recommending genetic testing, even in patients who have not had cancer. This simple to understand presentation explains how to quickly and easily determine which individuals should have genetic testing based on their personal and/or family history. Links to resources, including patient information videos and handouts, will also be provided.

Dr High completed her medical degree at Sydney University with honours. She is a registered medical oncologist specialising in cancer genetics. She has worked with hereditary cancer services at the Prince of Wales Hospital, Westmead Hospital and Royal North Shore Hospitals and now works with Sydney Cancer Genetics through rooms at the San Clinic.

Dr High works hard to provide equity of access to cancer genetics services. She conducts telehealth consults, with booking via her rooms at the San Clinic, into local GP practices and even into patient’s homes.

Dr High has a keen interest in research. She has presented her work at national and international conferences and has published in key international journals. She completed her Master of Community Health, for which she won the Master of Community Health Prize, through the University of NSW.

Dr Jingyi Cao

Head and Neck Surgeon, Surgical Oncologist and General Surgeon

Presenting on:

Thyroid Cancer in Primary Care: A Practical Guide & Relevant Updates from the 2025 ATA Guidelines for Differentiated Thyroid Cancer.

Thyroid nodules are common in general practice, and while the majority are benign, identifying the small proportion that represent thyroid cancer is essential. During this session, GPs will learn about a practical overview of the assessment and initial management of thyroid nodules, including when to investigate, when to biopsy, and when referral is indicated. Recent updates in thyroid cancer management, including risk-adapted surgery and active surveillance for selected low-risk cancers, will also be discussed.

Dr Cao specialises in treating thyroid, parathyroid and salivary gland diseases, as well as soft tissue tumours and advanced skin cancers.

Graduating from the University of Melbourne School of Medicine, Dr Cao went on to obtain her Fellowship in General Surgery with RACS in 2019. She further specialised in Head and Neck Surgery and Surgical Oncology at Westmead Hospital and the Crown Princess Mary Cancer Centre Westmead.

She offers consultations in both English and Mandarin and is known for her clear and effective communication.
